Please. It was always the United States' goal to turn Syria into a failed state, much as it did to Iraq and Libya, and as it seeks to do to Iran. This was always the intended goal, even though nobody of influence and authority can say so out loud.

In almost all cases that you mentioned, each and every one of these destabilized and ruined countries had been successful, independent, secular, and (in most cases) respectful of women. In Syria and Iraq, there were as many female college graduates as male. The fact that these countries. were proud of their historical legacies and their independent paths to modernity was, in each case, a red flag to a United States that felt so endangered and enraged by their independence that the destruction of historic symbolic sites has always been a bi-product of our intervention; as well as the setting up of anti-feminist, reactionary governments.
Our aim, if not our motto: Let no country culturally thrive independent of our hegemony.

However, I don't understand how you purposely omit the reality of why the USA has been undermining democracies and secular governments in the Middle East since after WWII. The original reason was and continues to be: to control strategic oil reserves to then use as a weapon against countries, dependent upon the oil from this region, who do not follow American oligarchic-imperialist dictates. The more nefarious and the cause of so much suffering, bloodshed and destabilization and genocide is Zionism. We took over from the UK allowing a settler-colonial terrorist state - Israel to destroy an indigenous culture and push its people into killing fields on stolen land. Why can't you say this?
